EU/IRAN: US involvement boosts nuclear talks hopes
The United States agreed on March 11 to support the EU's diplomatic strategy towards Iran. In exchange, the EU agreed to join a US campaign threatening UN economic sanctions should Iran fail explicitly to abandon its alleged nuclear weapons programme.
Our judgement
Since the Iranians are capable of drawing out talks with the EU-3 over several more years, further transatlantic friction is possible over the issue of Iran's nuclear capability.
