INTERNATIONAL: Human rights and business advances
The UN Commission on Human Rights on April 20 adopted a resolution on 'Human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises', which requests the secretary-general to appoint a special representative in this area.
Our judgement
The UN resolution establishing a special representative paves the way for continued and increased focus on the responsibilities and accountability of business in the area of human rights, something which business may choose to see as an opportunity rather than a risk.
